Dr. Day is an
Associate Professor of Music at NC A&T State University. He
holds a Bachelor's and Master's degree from the University of
South Dakota and a Doctorate from the University of Arizona. He
has done additional study at the Eastman School of Music.
He has studied trumpet with Ray T.
DeVilbiss, Vincent Chicowitz, Luther Didrickson, Renold Shilke
and Vincent DiMartino.
Dr. Day is the former Director of Jazz
Studies at Eastern New Mexico University, Lincoln University and
was the Assistant Coordinator of Jazz Studies at the University
of Arizona.
Dr. Day is active as a performer and
clinician and has arranged music for big bands, vocalists,
combos, and concert bands. His professional credits include
work with Bob Hope, Jerry Lewis, the Mills Brothers, Frankie
Valli, Johnny Brown, Gene Pitney, Marilyn Maye, Ashford and
Simpson, Quincy Jones, Clark Terry and others.
In addition to his responsibilities at
the University, Dr. Day also directs the Greensboro Big Band,
performs with several area big bands and directs his own 17
piece dance orchestra and 6 piece combo. |
